Rescues

Abingdon 43

Mid-February I was contacted by an adult child, one of 6, to do an intervention at his mother’s home. In order to respect the privacy of the family, no names will be released associated with this rescue. We were told there were 28 ferrets, 43 ferrets were removed. The owner is a kind woman, formerly a shelter director herself. She didn’t learn how to say “no”, or to refer the continuing surrender inquiries to other resources. Then as it happened, life became complicated and for a very long time the situation was out of control and spiraling downward rapidly.

I knew this woman from years ago, and this was a heart breaker for both of us. I wish her and her family well, and hope that with our assist, they can begin to put the pieces back together and never, ever, allow this to happen again. The situation will be monitored in years to come, in that Animal Control is aware of the rescue Rocky’s volunteers did.

In the words of Bob Adams, a Rocky’s volunteer that was a member of this team effort, “ There is a difference between sick and evil, therefore I don't suspect charges will be brought. In her mind, she was "helping" these kids. Bob”

Thank you all for your compassion and support.

Affectionately,
Barb Clay

Hagerstown

Rocky's has recently rescued 62 ferrets from a breeder in Hagerstown, Md. that kept them in complete dark isolation under horrendous conditions. These ferrets are in desperate need of homes that are knowledgeable, and will promise to try and make up for all that they have been deprived of all their lives, which would be unconditional love and companionship.
