Services
We offer a shelter for ferrets to give them a safe place to
live until they find a loving home. Our shelter is located
in Parkton, Maryland on a 130 acre farm. Our ferrets are housed
in an interesting old building. Our farm is agricultural, but
at one time it was a dairy farm. The building many years ago
was used as the “milking parlor”. It is a brick
construction of 40’ x 20. It has many windows providing
natural lighting and good fresh country air. The natural lighting
is a very healthy element for the well being of the ferrets.
The building has an alcove which is used for storage and doubles
as our office area. At the front of the building still stands
a stone and mortar wall which is over 200 years old.
Appointments are required for visiting so that all guests
are given the quality time needed to choose the right ferret(s).
Directions to the shelter are given at the time the appointments
are scheduled.
All prospective adoptions must be interviewed. Questions often
asked are located in the section “Ferret Info” “Selecting
A Ferret As A Pet”.
Our questions are not to be invasive, but are important inasmuch
as we do our best to permanently place our ferrets. Just as
important as selecting the right ferret for your family, we
want to select the right families for our ferrets.
The Contract: This document is an executed written trust between
yourself and our shelter. Basically, you Agree to properly
house, feed, exercise and medically support your ferret. Also
stated, is that should you have for some unforeseen reason
have to separate from your ferret it will be returned to our
shelter. In cases where a ferret is too young for spay
or neuter (less than four months) we asked you to sign a “Spay/Neuter” Contract.
In this special Contract you agree to return the ferret to
be altered, upon sexual maturity, at our expense.

All are welcome to join the successful TEAM of volunteers
here at Rocky’s. Volunteering consists of the following:
Working at the shelter organizing and cleaning and socializing
the ferrets. Assisting in transporting ferrets for inoculations
and medical.
Demos: Our most important work is education. We accomplish
this in many ways. One is to go to feed and/or pet stores and
set up a display of informative booklets and flyers. Many times
shelter ferrets or personal ferrets are present at these demos.
The ferret being the poster child for the terminally misunderstood
pet, getting these guys out there to be viewed and shown is
a great communicative device.
Adoptathons: Several times a year our volunteers take
on the challenge of greeting the public with the intention
of educating and placing our ferrets. This is a wonderful experience
and is a treasured experience by our volunteers.
Bonfires: Often our ferret families and volunteers get together
at the shelter site on the farm and enjoy an evening of cooking
out and a bonfire. We have had memorable occasions here on
the farm.
Oktoberfest: In October of each year
we have a fund raiser in the form of a giant cookout. Live
music is played all day long by local musicians and stories
of ferrets are eagerly swapped by ferret families.
Ferretstock: In the Spring we have an open-house with family
activities. Of course good music, good food, good friends,
and good times are had by all.
